The Agassiz-Harrison Museum welcomes two new faces to the museum and visitor information team this summer. Alexandra DeFazio and Quiana Borges will be working through the summer undertaking museum collection, special event and visitor information services work. We caught up with Alex, who introduces herself to you here:

I’m Alexandra Defazio, and I am excited to be an Agassiz-Harrison Museum and Visitor Information Centre summer student. I grew up in Chilliwack, and after graduating I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Ottawa. I have one more year left in my degree before I plan on pursuing a Master’s degree in Biochemistry. Going out east for university has been an amazing adventure, but it always leaves me happy to come home for the summer.

Working at the Agassiz-Harrison Museum is an amazing opportunity because I get the chance to learn about the great local history and work at an organization that does so much to educate visitors and the community! Some of the projects I will be working on this summer includes cataloguing a number of the Agassiz Harrison Museum’s engaging exhibits. I will also be researching and putting together content for an online exhibit the Agassiz Harrison Museum is putting together for the Virtual Museum of Canada’s Community Stories program. This year’s theme involves the history of corn in the community of Agassiz-Harrison and it’s interconnectivity with the community’s land, people and culture.

I can’t wait to learn more about Agassiz Harrison and the amazing community here, and I encourage everyone to take some time to stop in at the Agassiz Harrison Museum and Visitor Information Center to say hello and take a peek at our exhibits.
